Can I help you? I think that we're wild now And maybe underground Stuck in a moment of suspense Waiting a lifetime for the punch Am I old? Am I just old? We could have opened our doors No more confusion, no more guessing games Spring out of the trap Turn off the dark, get out your brushes again Sink into the bend You were the coolest in the room and I always wanted to be you I wonder what you could be doing now
2.
Bright light, it's crunch time I was only wondering aloud On how to escape from this island The wind blows The wind blows violently And I'm away now I'm away now

In the heat of the act With eyes full of light And a path along the palm of your hand You gave us a choice A ride in the dark Love at the highest of costs Dragged by horses Into a new morning Why now that you choose to pull on those strings? And the shaking of the ground is almost nothing Dragged by horses Into a new morning Dragged by horses Into a new morning You gave us a choice A ride in the dark Dragged there by horses Into a new morning You gave us a choice A ride in the dark

Deal with all the changes in the colour of your skin, you have always been a stranger to the rest of us. Just hanging on around the edges and falling into another unwinding storyline full of exposition. We'll never even learn our names We'll never even understand what we're doing here, even though we're always told the clock is ticking, ticking away Time runs out for you, Cold dark stars stretch above home. The rest can wait, the rest can wait. I have never been a one to break the rules, not even for you. We'll never even understand what we're doing here, even though we're always told the clock is ticking, ticking, ticking, ticking

I heard your voice crack from the bottom of the courtyard He's fallen, fallen back to sleep it's nobody's fault Isn't that what people say? They can't just say nothing Like; 'I warned you. We all saw this coming a mile away. But not you. you're drunk and blind almost every day to the chaos and the whirlwind beneath your feet."

Wait, wait we haven’t started to understand this yet, Watch the catherine wheel spin in the dark dark garden, I will take the low pass, The trail less traveled, For signs of your autograph, A tale of your survival. Listen to that hummingbird sing I know you’ve been waiting for a sign Waiting for a sign All of these years, up against the wall, living for a taste of it all. And it comes, like a crack behind the eyes, forever the surprise. Not worth seeking out. Listen to that hummingbird sing I know you’ve been waiting for a sign Waiting for a sign Stolen time, rich in regret and remorse, things that mean nothing at all. It’s a closed-loop, And I am a bird, taking the trail less traveled, for signs of your autograph, a tale of your survival. I know you’ve been waiting for a sign, waiting for a sign
11.
Control, giving up control for you. Fumes thinning out the air. I can’t remember the cost, of the ruin, or the man who pushed the needle in. In the ruins, looking, crooked and tired, with eyes full of dust, I can’t remember the cost, of the ruin, or the man who pushed the needle in.

You spend your life reading and filling the sky, with all of the new words that you learn and stories A man out of time, A car on fire, A half-written note, An unknown ending, A circling bird, A ringing hammer, A child laughing, A ticket uncollected.
15.
If I were to drive myself into a wall; A living wall of memories, Left languishing inside a drawer until now. Until the light hits; It won’t mean anything. Just a black screen; Nobody sees the actors move. And the smile is lost between the fuzziness of thought; Each time another version of itself. I’m sucking the blood out of my arm, I’m sucking the blood out of my arm, I’m sucking the blood out of my arm.

about

It's the end of April and we're still in isolation. So here's another batch of Isolation Songs.

About the project:

What a strange time to be living in. I spent the second half of last year, and up until recently, recuperating and trying to address my mental health issues. Now, like many of you, I find myself isolated at home whilst watching the news with uncertainty and growing uneasiness.

Whilst a lot of us are working remotely, there is still the rest of the hours of the day and night spent indoors. In between watching the same few episodes of Peppa Pig over and over, building Duplo and playing hide and seek (with my two year old of course!), I decided to try and get back to my songwriting, finish older projects, and stay creatively productive as possible. I started setting aside one hour each day in which to write, record and mix a song. Each song had to start from scratch. With a limited amount of resources at hand, it's a fun way to work and I have been sharing the results each day with the subscribers on my Patreon page.

At the end of each month, or for however long we are in isolation, I'll collect all of the songs that I have written for each day. There's no planning - just running with whatever idea pops up in those first few minutes of picking up an instrument. Some stream of consciousness, some more straight forward, some experimentation...

I hope you enjoy.
